Researching Galleries

Do you want to be represented by gallery? If so, you need to do a little digging on the galleries that are available to you.  Before you start doing your research, you need to determine if you are going to search locally or maybe more out of state. There are many items to consider when researching galleries. Here are a few things to consider when researching a gallery to represent you. Find a gallery that does not just represent themselves.    Find out what their commission percentage for selling your art will be and whether it will work with your business plan. Determine whether you would benefit from a co-op or a gallery that is owned and ran independently.  Both have their benefits. Do you want a gallery that only represents regional artist or one that is more nationally represented? Does the gallery have an online present? Do they have a website? Are they connected with a variety of social media sights.  How many artists do they represent and how diverse are their artists? As a woman having an equal number of women to men is important to me.  Often women are underrepresented in fine arts. Make sure it is a good fit for you. These are just a few items to consider when researching galleries.  There are many other things to consider but starting with a few of the basics.  I personally do not have a very good memory and found it helpful to write my information down on a chart to really get a good view of the whole picture.
