Definition of a successful Artist

What is an artist? According to the online Oxford dictionary, an artist is the following:

a person who produces paintings or drawings as a profession or hobby.

The question for this blog is what is definition of a successful artist? The online Oxford dictionary does not have a definition for a successful artist.  That means you need to make your own definition for success. 

Here are a few different ideas of success.

a. A successful artist can create art that is sellable and by selling their
art, they can make a living.
b. A successful artist is well known. This knowing can be locally or nationally.
It could even be worldwide, depending on the artist.
c. A successful artist has a gallery that they produce and sale their work in
d. A successful artist is well respected by their fellow artists.
e. A successful artist is accepted into multiple art shows.
f. A successful artist creates artwork that they are proud of creating.

Create a definition of what a successful artist looks like to you.  This will help you gear yourself to and hopefully succeed at being what you believe success looks like. For the sake of this blog, and future discussions on this blog, here is my definition.

Definition: A successful artist is someone who creates works of art that are highly technical, visually stimulating and mentally engaging. With this artwork the artist is able to become known both locally and regionally. The quick takeaway is helpful to define what you are thriving to become.
